JOURNEY2JOBS

A Mentoring Program sponsored by the:

Office of Disability Services

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS at SPRINGFIELD

Overview of the Journey2Jobs Program

The Journey2Jobs program is designed to help students with disabilities gain valuable exposure to the professional workforce through mentoring and networking opportunities, as well as skills training and job placement. This program is targeted at students with disabilities. We want to make sure that these students feel comfortable and that the mentors that are placed with them lend a helping hand and provide them with the necessary resources to enable them to be successful in their development as a student and as an aspiring professional in their field of interest. The mentors will help the Journey2Jobs students identify and overcome problems that they may face throughout their years of college and when they enter the workforce, thereby enabling them to be cognizant of what they must do to achieve their career goals and have successful, prosperous careers.

The Journey 2Jobs students will be able to take full advantage of the career exploration and developmental opportunities that the program offers. The guidance of a mentor can help students to become more focused in their career goals, and to develop skills they will need as they begin their first year. The Journey2Jobs program exists to enhance students’ skills and abilities outside the classroom and allow students to apply what they learn in classroom in their respective endeavors. By applying theoretical knowledge in the classroom to practical experiences, students will learn how to be successful in their careers. Mentors can respond to students questions, help them make connections among other students on campus, connect them to opportunities with potential employers and get feedback whenever necessary to help improve the student’s experience.
