Outright Gifts: Includes cash, checks and pledges of future funds. If the donor's employer MATCHES charitable contributions, the impact of the gift can be increased and the donor will receive recognition at the appropriate level for the combined gift and the match.

Shares of Stock in publicly traded companies. Stocks can be given, and may have real tax advantage to you by avoiding capital gains taxes for stock which has appreciated in value and has been owned by the donor for more than one year.

Planned Gifts: Include bequests from a last will and testament, charitable remainder trusts and lead trusts, and other arrangements that may offer significant tax and estate planning advantages to the donor.

Life Insurance Policies: Can offer a simple and cost effective way to benefit the university by naming the U of I Foundation as the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Payments by the donor of the policy's premiums may also result in a tax-deductible gift to the university.

Gifts of Personal Property: Such as books, jewelry, art, professional equipment, and other items may be given.

Gifts of Real Property: May be given to the U of I Foundation, or utilized in a planned gift to the university.

Meeting Your Goals

There are many ways to support the university while also contributing to your own personal and financial goals. Outright gifts to UIS, such as cash, stock and property, can lower your tax liability. They allow the university to put your philanthropy to work immediately in an area of special interest to you. Deferred gifts benefit the University of Illinois at Springfield in the future. Such gifts can substantially lower income taxes and estate taxes.

You can designate your gift to benefit one or more areas of your choosing, or make an unrestricted gift.

For more information on how to make a gift, contact the Office of Development, at (217)206-6058 or email giftinfo@uis.edu.
