UNRESTRICTED SCHOLARSHIPS

WHERE IT'S MOST NEEDED

An unrestricted scholarship can be given to any student:

  • To meet the student's need
  • To attract an excellent student to UIS
  • To keep a student who might otherwise leave
  • Or any other reason deemed important and necessary

With an unrestricted scholarship, you still have the choice of what to name the scholarship, but the scholarship can be given where it is most needed.

WHO CHOOSES THE RECIPIENT?

Dedicated staff members who spend time with students decide who will receive an unrestricted scholarship.  These staff members hear students’ stories and learn about special needs in students’ lives.  They have the chance to recognize special talents and strong character traits, and they see opportunities to attract unique students to UIS, students who will elevate the entire student population.

MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS

An unrestricted scholarship rarely goes unrewarded.  This is what makes this scholarship so powerful.  Our staff members who meet and talk with students will almost always be able to find students who need and deserve help as they pursue their dream of a college education.

YOU STILL HAVE CHOICES

Even with unrestricted scholarships, you have some choices.  You can make the unrestricted gift to a college.  You can also designate that the award goes to a student with need or with special merit.

With these broad criteria, your scholarship will still be available to a wide variety of students.  Of course, if you choose to make the scholarship completely unrestricted, all the better.
