Four years ago, in 2004, UIS began its Capital Steps Scholarship Campaign. Our goal through the campaign is to create 100 new scholarships at UIS.
We are halfway there, with 51 new scholarships for our students.
We hope that you will catch a vision for what these scholarships mean to students and consider contributing $1000 a year for the next four years. Through this gift, you will create a named Capital Steps Scholarship for a worthy student. (Of course, you can always create a larger scholarship by giving more each year!)
The gap between what the government expects students’ families to pay and what families can actually pay grows wider every year. To make matters worse, the gap between the funds that the states gives universities and the amount it costs to operate an excellent institution also continues to grow.
Families are in a terrible bind: They qualify for less aide from the government, but have to pay more in tuition. What keeps it all possible? Scholarships.
If the only students who can afford college are those from privileged families, what does that say for the strength of our country? Students learn valuable skills at a university, the ability to learn, reason, create, and communicate. They also gain important values, develop a broader outlook, and become more sensitive and appreciative of cultural distinctives. All of this develops leadership which our democracy needs.
Please help us keep this great education available to students.
With your help, we can give students a capital “step up."
