memorial tribute gifts

Honor a loved one. Create a legacy at UIS.

In 2003, shortly after beloved UIS political studies professor Lee Frost-Kumpf died, his loved ones established a scholarship fund in his name: The Lee Frost-Kumpf Scholarship. The recipient is a student pursuing a master's degree in political studies or public administration.

Read about a very special memorial gift: The Lee Frost/Kumpf Bench and Scholar TreeWhat a perfect legacy for such a warm, generous man who loved learning and passing that learning on to others!

Give in Honor

Commemorative gifts are a thoughtful way to honor or memorialize this loved one while supporting a cause you believe in. You could:

  • As a tribute to your mother, give a Mother's Day gift in her name to the Women's Center.
  • To celebrate a family milestone--all your own sons and daughters finished with their schooling--you can give a gift to the scholarship fund of your choice.
  • As a tribute to a favorite professor, make a donation in his or her name to a program on campus that this professor cared about.
  • As a tribute to a friend who loves books, make a gift to Brookens.

What a nice alternative to a fruit basket!

Give in Remembrance

Memorial gifts a heartfelt way to create a legacy in your loved one's name. We have several memorial scholarships, including one for former professor Lee Frost-Kumpf.

In the fall of 2008, Hilary Frost-Kumpf--also a professor at UIS--added a very special second memorial for Lee. She had a scholar tree planted near UIS' Public Affairs Center with a bench nearby for students to sit on. You can read more about this memorial by using the link above.

Ways to Establish a Memorial or Tribute Gift

An endowed scholarship insures that your loved one's legacy will continue into the future. But your memorial or tribute does not have to be a scholarship. Here are some other ways to honor your loved one:

  • Making an outright gift to a campaign or fund at any time
  • Making a bequest in your will to provide funding after your lifetime
  • Setting up an endowment to fund a special program or project in perpetuity

Adding Your Loved One's Name

How you recognize your loved one depends on the gift, but here are some ways that people have included their loved one's name in the memorial:

  • Honoree’s name engraved on a plaque
  • Building named after honoree, solely or along with other honorees
  • Endowed fund named after honoree
  • Scholarship named after honoree
