faculty support

FACULTY: THE STRENGTH OF UIS

Faculty provide so much of the strength of our university. UIS is, after all, the place where faculty know students' names.

Mark Puclik, professorBut our faculty know so much more. They know their fields with a knowledge that extends into understanding and even wisdom. And best of all, they know how to inspire students to learn what they know and to learn with them.

Please help. Here are three opportunities we would like to provide to our faculty:

  • Research and Scholarship Opportunities
We want to support our current faculty through additional research and scholarship opportunities at both the both graduate and undergraduate levels.

  • Travel Money
Unfortunately our funds to send them to conferences is limited. Ten faculty applied study awards will pay travel expenses to national conferences, helping our faculty model best practices for our students in teaching, scholarship, and service.

  • Enhancing Faculty Strengths
We also want to add additional endowed professorships--faculty at the top of their fields, adding to our already excellent faculty and staff. These professorships allow us to bring top-level academics to UIS
    • who have extensive expertise
    • who deepen and broaden our curriculum, and
    • who serve as beacons to other professors who want to come and work with them, especially bright young beginning professors to be mentored by them.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1. An Endowed Professorship

If you are interested in an endowed professorship, please contact one of our gift officers. The Meet Our Gift Officer link at left will introduce all our officers; you can choose which one works on behalf of the college or program you want to support.

2. Research and Scholarship Opportunities

If you are interested in supporting summer research opportunities for our faculty, thank you! Your gift will definitely enhance our academic excellence through the learning and contributions that your faculty recipients gain. For this support, you will probably need to speak with one of our gift officers. The Meet Our Gift Officer link at left will introduce all our officers; you can choose which one works on behalf of the college or program you want to support. You can also use the Send Us A Question link to contact us.

For general support of Faculty Research and Development, you could give to the following fund:

3. To Help with Travel Needs

Faculty need to meet with their colleagues--other leaders in their field. One of the best places to do this is at conferences, where faculty share their own knowledge and learn from each other.

  • Participation in an international conference costs $3000 to $4000
  • Participation in a national conference costs between $1500 to $2000.
  • Participation in a regional conference costs between $1000 to $1500.

If you are interested in providing this support, please choose what department or program you would like to give your support to and make a gift to that program fund (for Psychology give to the Psychology Program Fund; for Social Work, give to the Social Work Program Fund; and so forth). These funds provide unrestricted funds; please make a note in the comment box that you would like your gift to go toward a faculty member's expenses for one of these conferences.

4. To Help with Other Professional Costs

Faculty face other expenses that could benefit from your support:

  • The cost of materials for a presentation: $150-$200
  • A professionally prepared poster: $150
  • Special software: $250 to $750
  • An academic textbook or series of books: $100

If you are interested in providing this support, once again choose what department or program you would like to support and make a gift to that program fund (for Psychology give to the Psychology Program Fund; for Social Work, give to the Social Work Program Fund; and so forth). These funds provide unrestricted support to the programs, but you can always indicate your interest in the comment box on the online giving page.

Please help us increase our faculty’s regional leadership; your support is critical.
