Ancient Perú Study Abroad program

Students from the 2009 Peru tripGlobal Exchange Program

Last summer, 2010, seven UIS students will travel to Peru for an intensive, life-changing study-abroad program.

You can contribute to future study-abroad experiences by using the online form below: Donate

  • Director: Veronica Espina, who teaches in UIS' Modern Languages program. She can tell you if another group is going to Peru next summer.
  • Where: Cusco, Lima, Titicaca Lake, Machu Picchu, and Taray, all places in PERU
  • Why: To be trained on understanding other cultures, histories, and world views, as well to complete internships in Cusco’s schools, orphanages, and clinics.
  • When: Possibly 2011
  • Specific Needs: Students need help to pay for--
    their tickets to Perú for the Ancient Perú Study Abroad program (up to $800/student);
    fees to enroll in a Spanish immersion class in Cusco ($200/student);
    become volunteers in Cusco’s schools, orphanages, and/or clinics (about $100/student);
    room and board to their host families (about $400 a month per student).

All gifts will be added to a common fund to help defer costs for the entire group.

A Special Need for Your Support

Please understand. Many students at UIS have to hold down part-time or even fulltime jobs to pay for their education. So when they take a week out of their schedule to complete a special program like this, they face a double cost:

The cost of the trip itself. We try to raise money to help with programs like this one, but many students still have to contribute their own hard-earned and scarce funds.

The cost of their missing income. Their employers are willing to let them go on the trip, but of course the students will not get paid for the time they are gone.

SUCH a Valuable Learning Experience

These experiences supplement learning in the classroom. Students gain leadership skills, ability to work with others, a stronger sense of community, and so much more.

Your gifts would help to make a real difference in the lives of the UIS students.

Added to that, of course, is the benefit the students are providing to the community of Cusco through the volunteer work that students perform while in Peru.

Please Give Generously

You can use the button above to reach a secure online giving page, or you can send your gift directly to UIS.  Please add a note in the comment box to let us know you are supporting the Peru Study Abroad Trip. We suggest a donation of $100, $50, or $25, but any gift you give will be welcome—any size—and will of course be tax deductible.
