FAST FACTS ABOUT PSYCHOLOGY AT UIS
- Number of Majors, 2009-2010:
267 undergraduate majors
- Funds that Target Psychology:
- Current Needs:
- Scholarships: How could a department that has so many majors--267 in all--not have any scholarships that specifically target students in the department? Many psychology majors become teachers. That's surely a worthwhile field. Others go to graduate school to become counselors, school psychologists, and other psychology fields. And some use their background
in psychology to go into business, journalism, and many other fields. And yet no scholarships yet that specifically provide for these students. Small wonder that...
SCHOLARSHIPS ARE OUR GREATEST NEED. Please give.
For only $86/month or $1000/year, you can create a current-use scholarship.
You can choose the name and the criteria. Please contact our gift officer, Jill Bohn (link at left), for more information.
- Research support: Many of our students do research as part of their undergraduate program (here are a few). In addition to helping to pay for instrumentation and supplies, your gifts could help provide a way for these students to go to regional and national conferences. Truly, much of their research is good enough to present at these conferences, and how affirming and motivating to contribute to their field in this way. Yet finances frequently keep them from taking part in this extremely valuable educational activity.
- Faculty development: These funds allow faculty to stay current in the field by attending and often presenting at regional and national conferences.
- Unrestricted Funds: Because these gifts can be used to respond to unexpected opportunities or needs, they are particularly powerful. You can make this kind of to the Psychology Fund (link above).
