funds that provide support for social work

MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS

Your gift in any amount to the funds below provide support for social work students. You

can use the Donate button to give online.

Please notice that UIS has no scholarships that specifically target social work students. If you are interested in being the first to create such a scholarship, please contact our office. Thank you!

Social Work Program Fund Donate

This fund provides money for special opportunities or extraordinary needs.

  • Faculty and students can travel to a conference to present their research.
  • Faculty can take part in a special opportunity to update their skills.  Professors need to be aware of the latest developments in their field, so that they can pass this knowledge on to their students.
  • The department can purchase special equipment, test materials, resources, or training modules to help our students attain success and achieve their goals.

These activities and others like them enrich our students immeasurably, enhancing the education they receive at UIS—but we could not do any of them without the discretionary money given to this fund.

Scholarship Funds

The Social Work Department does not currently have a targeted scholarship fund.

This is such a shame and yet hardly surprising.

In other programs, alumni often set up scholarships, but social workers--again--earn so little that it's hard for them to make philanthrophic gifts, regardless of how much they recognize the need for them.

And yet social work students need scholarships so much! Without the financial aid that scholarships give, they have to work long hours to pay their college bills, often having to take out loans or stopping out to earn money for the next semester's bills.

And then once they finish their degree, it's so much harder for them to pay off student loans because they earn so little in their public service positions.

You could be the first to create one—either a current use scholarship or an endowed scholarship—that targets social work students.  Use the links to learn more about these scholarship opportunities.

As the principle donor of this new scholarship, you would get to name the fund and establish the selection criteria. And then future donors could add to your scholarship--the first for social work students.
