college of education and human services

Spend some time in the College of Education and Human Services, and you’ll discover how much we care about people. Almost everything we do is for their benefit:

  • Graduates of Human Development Counseling, an accredited program, help siblings resolve conflicts, a shy child speak up in class, or an inmate manage her anger.
  • Graduates of our Teacher Education Program invest themselves in their students’ lives.
  • Our Teacher Leadership Program creates master teachers who, in turn, mentor other teachers.
  • Graduates from our Human Services help addicts navigate their way back to health, enrich the lives of our elderly populations, direct social service agencies, and work with children and families to solve their issues such as homelessness, hunger, or parenting questions.
  • Our Social Work graduates empower some of our most troubled fellow citizens—among them people who are homeless, sick, abandoned, and abused—so they can overcome their own problems and make their lives better. Social work is also an accredited program.
  • Our Educational Administration program helps school leaders nurture the leadership of staff working under them.

We nurture a caring environment for our students, giving them lots of personal attention. As we show our students dignity and respect, we feel confident that our graduates will show that same dignity and respect to their own students and clients.

Honor a teacher...by helping to prepare more!Points of Pride

  • We are proud of our academic excellence, especially our 100% pass rate for teacher education candidates on state exams.
  • We are proud that the federal government chose us to address a severe shortage of qualified math teachers in the state of Illinois.
  • We are proud of our extensive online learning capabilities, rated among the top five in the nation by the Wall Street Journal in 2006.
  • And we are proud that our social work students log 400 hours of service learning experience, and that our Alcohol and Substance Abuse Certificate is the only downstate program of its kind.

But we are most proud of what these achievements and many others like them mean for our students and the people they serve.

Creating Brilliant Futures

There are people in our communities who are living with failure and doubts, pain and desperate circumstances—and they don’t need to! You can make the crucial difference for them by giving generously to our programs. Please help us as we seek Brilliant Futures for the people we serve.
