Spread the word about Illinois Springfield with Add This

performing arts programming

An important part of Sangamon Auditorium’s mission is providing varied andHall Holbrook in Mark Twain Tonight! culturally enriching programming. You can contribute to this effort by giving to the Sangamon Auditorium Fund; tell us your intention in the comment box. Donate

Bringing Popular Events to Springfield

With some Auditorium events, ticket sales pay the artists’ fees:

  • Marie Osmond’s Magic of Christmas,
  • Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain Tonight!,
  • Classic rock band Jethro Tull, and
  • Our entire Broadway series.

These popular events are certainly part of our mission, and we will continue to offer them.

Events That Stretch Our Cultural Outreach

But here in Springfield, we cannot take for granted the cultural and ethnic diversity of bigger cities. We want Springfield to have an opportunity to experience the informative and inspiring effects of world culture. We The Tibetan Monks of the Drepung Loseling Monasteryespecially want Springfield's children--our future--to see beyond the landscape provided by popular, easily available culture.

Because of that , we look beyond events for which we expect ticket sales will not cover artists’ fees and associated costs and schedule equally excellent but less wellknown performers. These performers include the Japanese taiko drummers of Yamato, modern dance and creative movement company Diavolo, and highly-acclaimed string ensemble the Kronos Quartet.

We are fortunate to be able to include performances by these artists in our Class Acts program. In fact, without the evening performances, the children of central Illinois would never have been able to hear or see the Tibetan monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery, Yamato, Diavolo, or other culturally extending events.

The evening performances bring the artists to Springfield, enabling the Ballet dancersdaytime educational programming.

We Need Your help

These events—so important to fulfilling our mission—need your help so that we can continue to cover their costs. Your gifts allow us to maintain and even expand and diversify this programming.
