TIMELESS: Celebrating the Lasting Impact of Scholarships
UIS Scholarship Luncheon, November 2, 2011
This year, we welcomed our new Chancellor Susan J. Koch to the podium. She welcomed over 300 guests–generous donors, student recipients, faculty, and staff–to the luncheon.
After a delicious lunch, Carol and Clark Esarey spoke. The Esareys are donors with their son Gary Bach of an endowed scholarship that honors Carol’s and Clark’s mothers:
Carrie Gibson Esarey, raised by a single mother, taught in a one-room schoolhouse. Dorothy, also passionate about education, quietly championed women’s independence. Her recipe for achieving this was education, education, education. Her two daughters were the first women in the family to earn college degrees.
After their warm remarks, scholarship recipient Fredrick Jackson spoke about how much his scholarships have helped him achieve his long-held dreams of a college education. He received the Eugene R. and Elaine A. Wilkinson Scholarship and the Albert and Mozelle Narcisse Scholarship.
Vicki Megginson closed the event.
