Funds That Support the Human Services Concentrations

Donna Weinstein
Above: Dr. Donna Weinstein, assistant professor in Human Services, Child and Family concentration, spent the last 14 years working with children and families to reduce incidence of abuse and neglect.

Human Services Includes Four Concentrations

  • Alcohol and Substance Abuse: Currently the only certificate program in Central Illinois; students learn interview and intervention techniques that help them provide treatment to those with substance abuse problems.
  • Child and Family Services: Prepares graduates who can empower
individuals and families to live healthier and more productive lives.
  • Gerontology: Enabling professionals to meet the biological, social, and psychological needs of people over 85 years of age–the fastest growing segment of our society; graduates work in hospitals, nursing homes, adult
    care homes, and other agencies.
  • Social Service Administration: Provides students with skills uniquely tailored to managing social service agencies.

Your gift in any amount to the funds below provide support for students. If you want to direct your gift to one program, please add a note in the Comment Box on the Online giving form (which you’ll reach through the Donate button).

Human Services Program Fund

This fund provides money for special opportunities or extraordinary needs.

  • Faculty and students can travel to a conference to present their research.
  • Faculty can take part in a special opportunity to update their skills. Professors need to be aware of the latest developments in their field, so that they can pass this knowledge on to their students.
  • The department can purchase special equipment, test materials, resources, or training modules to help our students attain success and achieve their goals.

These activities and others like them enrich our students immeasurably, enhancing the education they receive at UIS—but we could not do any of them without the discretionary money given to this fund.

Other Options

Not interested in any of the funds listed above? Then you can also create your own named scholarship fund—either a current use scholarship or an endowed scholarship—that targets the students you specify in the HUman Services Department or any one of the four concentrations. As the principle donor of this new scholarship, you would get to name the fund and establish the selection criteria.
