Funds that Support Global Studies

Make a Difference for Global Studies

Students who major in Global Studies gain a wide and diverse perspective on the world, the tools to appreciate how other people see the world, and an understanding of the issues confronting the global community. UIS has always prided itself on collaborative and interdisciplinary learning, and the Global Studies major certainly demonstrates that commitment. The degree emphasizes combines learning in political science, history, sociology/anthropology, communication, and environmental studies.

Global Studies is still a fairly new department at UIS. You can learn more about the decision to create the department in this news article and video from 2008.

If you would like to work with us to prepare students to thrive and contribute within our increasingly global environment, you can join support Global Studies by giving to two funds:

  • The College of Public Affairs and Administration Fund. If you choose to provide unrestricted gifts to the Global Studies Department, make a gift to the CPAA Fund and add a note with your gift indicating you want your gift to go to Global Studies. If you use the Donate button below, please add a note in the Special Instructions box indicating your intentions.
  • The Dr. Stephen J. Schwark China Exchange Program Fund. Learn more about this initiative, which honors department founding faculty member, Dr. Schwark, on his retirement. Briefly, the fund provides support, primarily to supplement travel and book purchase expenses, for faculty members from China who spend a year teaching at UIS.

Other Options

Global Studies at this moment has no targeted scholarships for students within the major. Please considerĀ  creating your own named scholarship for Global Studies, either a current use scholarship or an endowed scholarship. Use the links above to learn more about these scholarship opportunities. As the principal donor of a new scholarship, you can both name the scholarship and establish the selection criteria.

You could also provide supportĀ  for students’ global experiences regardless of major by making a gift to the Office of International Programs.
