Make a Difference for Public Affairs Students at UIS

Thank you for your interest in providing support for the College of Public Affairs and Administration. We are so proud of this college at UIS!

The College of Public Affairs and Administration has many funds and scholarships targeted to specific departments that you can give to, but if you would like to support the College as a whole, you can give as much or as little as you would like to one of the following funds either online or by mail.

General Funds

College of Public Affairs and Administration Fund Donate

This fund provides money for special opportunities within the College or for extraordinary needs.  Here are just a few examples:

  • Faculty and students can travel to a conference to present their research.
  • Faculty can take part in a special opportunity to update their skills.  Professors need to be aware of the latest developments in their field, so that they can pass this knowledge on to their students.
  • The department can purchase special equipment, test materials, resources, or training modules to help our students attain success and achieve their goals.

These activities and others like them enrich our students immeasurably, enhancing the education they receive at UIS—but we could not do any of them without the discretionary money given to this fund.

Faculty Research and Development Fund Donate

Our faculty is our greatest strength. If you have benefited from the personal attention and interest of professors at UIS, please consider helping us provide the growth opportunities our wonderful professors need to stay current, stay relevant, stay engaged. Your gifts will help send professors to conferences, create a professionally prepared poster or other materials to present at these conferences, or purchase special software or equipment for their research with students.

Public Affairs Staff Development

By giving to this, you will be providing funding for conferences/seminars/workshops for College of Public Affairs and Administration.

Chris Z. Mooney Grants for Comparative American State Politics and Policy Research Donate

This endowed fund provides travel, supply, and research grants for CPAA faculty and graduate students studying comparative American state politics and policy. The American Political Science Association created the fund after the Association took over the State Politics and Policy Journal in appreciation of Professor Chris Mooney, who founded the Journal. It is Dr. Mooney's wish that the fund help support research in this field. Donors may add to the endowment with gifts of any size, extending the benefit faculty and staff receive from the fund.

Scholarship Funds

The College has four campus-wide scholarship funds.

College of Public Affairs and Administration Scholarship Fund Donate

This fund is currently collecting money. Once it reaches a threshold level, it will be given as scholarships to students in CPAA.

Elaine Marie Kracaw Scholarship for Returning Students Donate

When circumstances warrant an interruption in the continuing education of a student, returning to college after a break can be a struggle. Yet, for those students who take the plunge and make the grades, the Elaine Marie Kracaw Scholarship seeks to reward their efforts. Applicants must be undergraduates who have returned to college after a break in their education and have earned or are maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.5. Preference given to applicants from the College of Public Affairs and Administration.

Maurice W Scott Scholarship in Public Affairs Fund Donate

Maurice W. Scott was a distinguished Springfield lawyer, who began his legal career working for the Taxpayers Federation and drafting tax legislation for members of the Illinois General Assembly. He also wrote guidebooks on county law. In 1969, Mr. Scott was elected to the Sixth Illinois Constitutional Convention. The Maurice W. Scott Scholarship in Public Affairs is awarded to an outstanding community college transfer student seeking a degree in public affairs.

Saul Morse and Anne Morgan Scholarship Fund Donate

Saul Morse and Anne Morgan have been involved in UIS and the Springfield community for many years.   Saul is an attorney with the law firm of Brown, Hay & Stephens LLP and has practiced law in government agencies, private practice, and corporate law departments here for over 30 years.  He has taught at UIS in the Legal Studies Department as adjunct faculty for many years and is also an adjunct faculty member at SIU School of Medicine.  Saul has served as a member of the state Human Rights Commission, Comprehensive Health Insurance Board, and as Chair of the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission.  At UIS he is a member of the Chancellor’s Community Advisory Board and chairs the Advisory Board to the Office of Disability Services.  He also serves on the board of several community organizations. 

Anne is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist at Memorial Medical Center where she founded the Health Psychology Department.  Anne has served as a member of the state Psychology Licensing Board and as a member and past chair of  Sojourn Shelter and Service and the Springfield Public Schools Foundation. Anne taught at UIS when it was Sangamon State University as adjunct faculty in the Psychology Department and has been a member of the search committee at UIS participating in selecting the Director of Sangamon Auditorium.

Their scholarship is for a student in the College of Public Affairs and Administration.

Thomas A. Shearer Scholarship in Environmental Studies Donate

Thomas Shearer, who graduated from UIS in 1983 with a Bachelor's Degree in Environment and People, has established a new scholarship for students who are minoring in Environmental Studies. Currently, Environmental Studies at UIS is a graduate program, but Mr. Shearer has a great concern for students who are working toward their bachelor's. Because of that, he has specified that his scholarship will be given to an undergraduate student preferably majoring in a degree from the College of Public Affairs and Administration, who is minoring in environmental studies. The student can be either a fulltime or a part-time student. You can add to this new scholarship by using the donate button above this paragraph.

Not interested in any of the funds above?  Then you can create your own scholarship fund that targets the students you specify in the College of Public Affairs and Administration.  As the principle donor of this new scholarship, you would get to name the fund and establish the selection criteria.
