our students need your help

Why give?

Simple--

Our students need your help.

  1. To concentrate more on learning

Many UIS students have to work while at college--and more than a few actually work fulltime while attempting to complete college.

Your gifts through scholarships can help them afford to work less and concentrate on school more.

  2. To be part of a learning community on campus

Many students cannot afford to live on campus, and yet we know from many research studies that students who live on campus do better academically, are more likely to stay in college, and are more successful after college.

This is especially true for first-generation students. When they live at home, often other family members distract and even discourage them from the commitment a college education requires.

Your gifts can help students experience the support, encouragement, and discipline that living on campus provides.

  3. To have course textbooks

Many students manage to pay the tuition for their classes, but cannot afford the books for their courses--an average of $900/year. What can they do? And then, is it surprising that they have trouble succeeding?

Your gifts could help to provide these vital textbooks, allowing students a full learning experience.

  4. To take advantage of special learning opportunities

At UIS, students encounter amazing opportunities that they have to reject because they can't afford them--
    • to present their psychology research at a national conference
    • to spend the summer doing wetland restoration research
    • a once-in-a-lifetime internship in Belize
    • a three-week study-abroad experience in Mexico
    • contributing to the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans
    • an applied study term at a Kenyan orphanage
    • to show a piece of original artwork at a regional show

Your gifts can help our students take advantage of these and other opportunities.
