Some funds that might interest you as parents

You are certainly welcome to browse the Giving Opportunities link at left, where you will find links to our colleges and departments, and many programs at UIS. In the Giving Opportunities section, we give lots of information about the needs of all these programs, with slide shows, quotes from students, and much more.

Immediate Benefit

To give you a jump start, we're listing here a few programs that have been of interest to parents in the past (in alphabetical order--not order of importance!):

  • Athletics Unrestricted Fund Donate
Athletics has been growing dramatically at UIS with new sports being added and a move to NCAA Division II status. For specific needs related to Athletics, please visit our Athletics site under Giving Opportunities.
  • Campus Recreational Sports Fund Donate
    Recreational activities
--exercise, intramural competitions, and much more--are so important to students' academic, mental, and personal wellbeing! Please help us help students.
  • Center for Teaching and Learning Donate
Many students need a little extra help in math, science, writing, and other academic requirements. We do a great job in our Center; your gifts can help us do even better.
  • First-Year Programs Donate
The first year of college is so crucial to students with so many adjustments, questions, potential problems, and more. In our Center for First-Year Students, we want to help students move through this time as effortlessly as possible, and your gifts will help--you'll be giving where your own son or daughter might need it the most!
  • International Student Services Donate
Maybe you have come to the United States from another country and want to lend your support to students at UIS who are adjusting as you did to life in the States. We have an active--and large--group of international students who would certainly appreciate your assistance. (You probably know international students cannot usually drive or work off campus; you can help our International Services Center provide opportunities for students to see more of the States than just the UIS campus!)
  • Library Enhancement Fund Donate
Always one of the most important places on a university campus, the library has so much to offer. Your gifts to this enhancement fund would help us prepare more convenient places--learning commons--for group study work with up-to-date technology.
  • Student Life Donate
Our wonderful Student Life Center makes college a place where students grow as complete people--not just academically but socially, ethically, culturally, and personally. If you're on campus, try to set up an appointment to meet with our director, Cynthia Thompson. She's sure to inspire you and give you some compelling ideas for where you can add your support to this Center's important and lifechanging goals.
  • Student Affairs Fund for Excellence Donate
This fund helps to send students to regional and national conferences to help them become better leaders at UIS and to broaden their perspectives on local issues. Please give--our students need this chance to see a bigger world.
  • Women's Center Donate
We have lots of programs to make life better on campus for women, but as a parent, you will probably be especially interested in the Center's RAD Self-Defense Training, a program could prove life-changing--and life-saving. Please give--resources are getting stretched tighter and tighter during this financial crisis.
