frequently asked questions about the faculty and staff campaign

We love to answer questions, so please use the link at left to send us one. You could also call Lisa Whelpley at 206.6058, or email her directly at whelpley.lisa@uis.edu.

You might also find your question listed below.

What is the Faculty and Staff Campaign?

The Faculty and Staff Campaign thanks the dedicated faculty and staff who are currently contributing to UIS, and extends this tradition to the remaining employees who have yet to make a gift to UIS in the current fiscal year. A special campaign is carried out in March to raise awareness and have fun while promoting employee giving. (back to top)

What is the purpose of the Faculty and Staff Campaign?

  • To build loyalty to UIS
  • To send a message to those outside UIS that we believe in and support our own product
  • To fund programs within UIS
  • To provide well-deserved recognition to all Faculty & Staff donors (back to top)

When does the Faculty and Staff Campaign start?  When does it conclude?

You can contribute any time of the year. The Campaign will be in high visibility beginning at the official Kick-Off Celebration on Thursday, March 1 and will continue through the month. Volunteers will conduct personal contacts during this period. However –any gift made 7/1/2011 – 6/30/2012 is counted as part of the campaign. (back to top)

How much will I have to give to be a part of the Faculty and Staff Campaign?

There is no specific dollar amount required. Your gift of any amount, including contributions of in-kind items, will help us move closer to our goal. Every dollar makes a difference and participation is very important. (back to top)

Do gifts I’ve already made count?  Do I need to make an additional gift to be included in the Faculty and Staff Campaign?

You do not have to give an additional gift. All gifts given this fiscal year (since July 1, 2011), including payroll deduction gifts and in-kind gifts, will be included in the campaign totals.  (back to top)

May I give an anonymous gift?

Yes. Please note your preference when making your gift. (back to top)

May I make a gift jointly with my spouse/partner?

Yes. When you make your gift, indicate that it is a joint gift and list both of your names. And please remember to check if your spouse/partner’s company has a matching gift program. You can obtain this form from the employer’s Human Resources Department. (back to top)

Can I designate my gift to more than one area?

Certainly!  Just indicate the area and amount for each designation on your gift card, or when you make your gift online. (back to top)

What types of gifts “count” in the Faculty and Staff Campaign?

All types of annual gifts count for the campaign. Common gift types include:

  • Outright gifts: cash, checks, payroll deduction, and credit card gifts.
  • Shares of stock: in publicly traded companies.
  • Gifts of personal property: such as books, art, equipment, auction items, etc. (back to top)

How will my gift be used?

It’s up to you. You decide where you want to direct your support. 100% of your gift goes to the fund you designate. (back to top)

I already work here.  Why should I give?

  • Set an example: Your support sends a strong message to our community by showing your commitment to the UIS mission. With a gift, you communicate the importance of giving and become part of our valued team of supporters.
  • Bigger picture: If our own employees are unwilling to support UIS, what messages are we sending to corporations, foundations and alumni whose support we are seeking? Your giving sends a powerful message to our students, too. (back to top)

Is this the same as the SECA campaign?

No, they are separate. While both are worthwhile causes, the SECA campaign raises money for thousands of nonprofit organizations worldwide, whereas gifts to the Faculty and Staff Campaign specifically help fund programs at UIS.  (back to top)

Will my gift really make a difference?

  • Fundraising has a direct and immediate impact on the University’s ability to achieve its mission and on the quality of the education that we can provide to current and future students.
  • All support makes a difference and participation is very important.
  • Your participation will contribute to a sense of partnership and pride across campus. (back to top)

How do I make a donation to UIS?

Ask your mail stop’s Faculty and Staff Campaign Volunteer, or call the Development Office at 6-6058.  Whomever you call will provide you with the materials you need.  Or, if you prefer, you may use an online gift form. (back to top)

What are the tax benefits of giving to UIS?

  • All gifts to UIS are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
  • The University of Illinois Foundation issues gift receipts for each gift. (back to top)

How will I be recognized?

In late summer, we will print posters listing all employee donors in the fiscal year. You can view an alphabetical list of 2011 donors here. Th. posters will be displayed across campus as well as on the UIS Office of Development web page. Gift amounts are never publicized and if you prefer, you can be listed as an anonymous donor.
