Named professorships allow UIS to recruit promising researchers and teachers in areas of interest to corporations. Two such professorships are the National City Distinguished Professor of Banking and Finance and the Ameren Distinguished Professor in Business and Government.
Faculty ScholarsA named faculty scholar receives support for teaching, research, and outreach. Renowned MIS scholar, Rasule Hadidi, is UIS’ Hanson Professional Services Faculty Scholar.
Scholarships help to attract excellent students, giving students freedom to focus on their studies and prepare for careers in fields of importance to corporations. Springfield Electric, for example, has donated money for an academic scholarship.
Internships give students important experiential learning, while providing businesses an important first look at possible future employees. Faculty also do internships as a means of staying up to date with current practices. Impressed with UIS students, State Farm has designated UIS as a preferred provider for one of their summer internship programs.

Research engages students in applied learning, often in areas of concern to corporations. With corporate support, UIS will increase research opportunities such as the project funded by Merck/AAAS, for which chemistry and biology students and faculty study the river floodplain at Emiquon.
Sponsoring UIS events, facilities, or athletic teams achieves three
simultaneous benefits: marketing, a stake in the success of UIS programs, and assistance to students taking part in the events or programs. Family Video, for example, sponsors the scoreboard in the 3,000-seat arena within UIS’ new Recreation and Athletic Center.
One such UIS affiliation is with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, which has supported the online learning initiative of UIS’ Office of Technology-Enhanced Learning. The Foundation also supported UIS in hosting a conference in New Orleans on higher education lessons learned in delivering the curriculum online in the case of an emergency.
