one Donor's story

Michael Purnell, Emiquon donor and volunteerWe are here to help donors connect to programs that reflect their interest, their passions.

Meeting Us Halfway

Sometimes donors get so excited that they meet us halfway, offering ideas for how they might give and even volunteering hours of their own time to work with the program that interests them. You can join in this vital environmental and educational effort by giving online to the Friends of Emiquon Fund or by becoming one of our volunteers. Donate

One such donor is Michael Purnell, a donor to UIS who has become an integral part of the Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon.

Matchmaker, Chef, and More

Here are just a few ways that Michael has given to Emiquon:

  • He matched need to donor, arranging a gift through a friend, Cyndi Dietrick, for the donation of some amazing equipment and cabinetry valued at over $170,000 from the Prairie Education and Research Cooperative.
  • Then Michael starting helping out at Emiquon's many outreach programs for the community, meeting with Dr. Micchael Lemke, Emiquon Field Station director, to plan the events and then rolling up his sleeves to cook burgers and hot dogs, and doing anything else needed.
  • Now, as a member of the Emiquon Advisory Board, Michael is an integral part of making Emiquon the success it is.

This perfect matching of donor and program keeps us motivated. It's win-win for all of us: donors, students, and the community.

Please let us know how we can make this connection for you.
