Brilliant Futures Campaign Update

Brilliant Futures: The Campaign for the University of Illinois at Springfield is progressing… well…brilliantly!

Thanks to our generous alumni and friends, as of February, 2008, the University has raised over $17 million. This means, with just 54% of the campaign completed, over 60% of our goal has been reached. (See Figure 1.)

We are especially pleased to report to you, that your giving—alumni giving—has grown substantially during the campaign, with $5 million from alumni gifts already credited to the campaign. (Please see Figure 2.)

As you know, your university has three primary goals for all its students: academic excellence, enriching individual lives, and making a difference. The campaign’s purposes have been carefully chosen to strengthen and enhance these pillars and to provide a variety of ways for you to invest in the future—your interest, your choice. As you read the list below, please ask yourself: Where do your interests lie? In which area would you like to leave a legacy?

Double Bracket: Please consider giving to research opportunities for students. These provide valuable experience to students, give them a way to earn money while advancing their education, and often inspire them to go to graduate school. You’ll be making a real difference through your gift.

· $7.0 million for faculty support (endowed chairs, professorships, faculty development and research)

· $5.5 million for student support (scholarships and graduate assistantships and fellowships)

· $5 million for academic programs

· $3.5 million for facilities and equipment

· $2.0 million for research

· $1.5 million for public service

· $3.5 million in unrestricted funds

You can create a lasting legacy through an endowed gift. Endowments, an important part of any institution’s stability, have been growing steadily at UIS. An endowment, as you probably know, is a self-renewing resource that the University does not spend. Instead, endowed gifts are invested, and it’s the earnings from these investments that help fund the University. At UIS, when we add in deferred gifts, endowments now total over $20 million. (Figure 3 shows growth in endowments over the past four years.)

In so many ways—thanks to our generous donors--giving to UIS is definitely growing. Celebrate with us!

· Annual giving income is up 12.6%

· Total gift income is up 25.5%

· Average gift size is up 29.6%

· Average gift per donor is up 30.7%
