Connecting to the UISWiFi Wireless Network

Windows XP

UISWiFi uses a security suite called WPA-2, compatibility for which was added to Windows XP through a patch in 2007. To ensure that your system has the required updates, UIS has made available this patching utility. Please download and save it to your computer, and then run it. You will need to restart your computer after it completes installation.

After your computer has the required updates and has been restarted, please run this configuration utility. It will add the UISWiFi wireless network and all of its required settings to your computer. Executing this program will open a black command prompt window - no user action is required, although it will display what the program is doing and will print any errors encountered.

Depending upon whether or not your computer is in the UISAD domain, Windows may ask you for your UIS Network ID and password in order to authenticate and let you connect to the network.

Windows Vista

WPA-2 is natively available to Windows Vista, so you can just use the configuration utility to add the UISWiFi wireless network. Executing this program will open a black command prompt window - no user action is required, although it will desplay what the program is doing and will print any errors encountered.

Depending upon whether or not your computer is in the UISAD domain, Windows may ask you for your UIS Network ID and password in order to authenticate and let you connect to the network.

Mac OSX

In order to connect to UISWiFi, select the UISWiFi from the AirPort menu. You will be prompted for your UIS Network ID and password. After a few moments, you will automatically be connected to the UISWiFi wireless network.

iPhone

Like Mac OSX, connecting to UISWiFi only requires that you enter your user name and password. Go to Settings, then Wi-Fi. Select UISWiFi from the list and it should ask you for your UIS Network ID and password. Click Join to finish connecting - after a few moments you should be back at the Wi-Fi config screen and it should show that you are connected to the UISWiFi wireless network.
