VPN Client

The VPN client provided to Faculty, Staff & Students of UIS is a program that provides access to the UIS network through the campus firewall.  VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and when used by campus clients by running and logging in via their campus NetID it provides a secure connection through the firewall.

NOTE:Currenty the UIS network requires authentication via VPN client software for accessing either the on-campus wireless network or if individuals off-campus want to remotely connect to their on-campus computer. The VPN client is compatible only with 32 bit operating systems so our recommendation is to buy only 32 bit operating system computers if you intend to access the UIS network via either of the above methods. We are currently testing a 64 bit compatible wireless network on the campus, but the coverage is limited at this time.

Installing the VPN Client

  1. Download the VPN installer from Webstore-
  2. Versions:
    Linux
    Macintosh
    Windows

  3. Remove any previous versions of the Cisco Systems VPN Client. This can be done from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
  4. Run the installer. This could take a few minutes to complete and will restart your computer, so save your work and exit any programs before you begin.
  5. Start the VPN Client software, select the appropriate profile, and click connect. Type in your NetID and password when prompted, and you're connected!
