network storage

Student Network/Campus Storage

Every UIS student has/is entitled to 100 megabytes of storage space on the network server. This space is free for students to store important homework or personal files. Because the storage space is their own/private, they are the only ones who will have access to the storage. This space is not be accessible to anyone except that student.

When you sign on to any Windows XP computer on campus using your NetID, your network drive connection will automatically be available for use.

The drive will be called "yournetid on 'uis10 \sdata' (Z:)" For example, John Smith's network drive connection would read: jsmit2 on 'uis10\sdata' (Z:) Accessing this drive is simple:

  1. Click Start in the lower-left portion of the screen (the Start menu).
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Your network drive should be located under the heading Network Drives (again, it will be named yournetid on 'uis10\sdata' (Z:)).
  4. Double-click on the drive an you will be able to add and remove files at your discretion

Saving files to your network share

When you are using an application that allows saving (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) you can save directly to your network drive.

When you are using that application, simply do the following:

  1. Choose File > Save As (or the specified Save feature for that application).
  2. You should be presented with a new window. Click the drop-down box located next to Save in:
  3. A list of destinations will appear. Your network drive should be available under its normal name (yournetid on 'uis10 \sdata'(Z:)). Click on your drive and then click Save
    • If you are not using a Microsoft application it is possible that your network drive will not have its usual name. In this instance, navigate to the Z: drive if possible and save there.
