computer labs

UIS students, faculty, and staff have access to state-of-the-art computing facilities, including our open access computer lab in the University Hall Building [UHB 2030] and the multimedia lab on the first level of Brookens Library, Media Lab [BRK 180). The labs are available for use by all current UIS students, staff, faculty, and the general public.

General Access Computer Labs

UHB 2030 [39 workstations]

Univ. Hall, UHB 2030

This is a general access computer lab with Pentium IV PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, one Sun Workstation, one Macintosh computer, B&W and color laser printers, and flatbed scanners. The consulting desk is staffed during all open hours to assist users.

Media Lab, BRK 180 [41 workstations]

Media Lab, BRK180

The Multimedia Lab in BRK 180 is a specialized lab of seventeen stations focused on computer graphics, digital video and audio production. In addition to common software for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentations, you have a variety of computer hardware and software suited for developing almost every type of multimedia project. Equipment such as scanners, CD and DVD burners, digital slide scanners, analog/digital video converters, and laser color printers are available for use. The lab contains a digital editing suite [or eSuite] for video/audio production, DVD production, adding voice-overs, and capturing/mixing audio in a studio environment.

eSuite

Media Lab, eSuite

The Digital Editing Suite located inside the Media Lab [BRK 180] is a studio for digital video and audio production. Users can create CD & DVDs, record voiceover for presentation slides, and capture & mix audio in a studio environment.

HSB 108 [34 workstations]

This newly remodeled teaching lab includes Pentium IV PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, a B&W laser printer. This lab will be available general use when not scheduled for classes. A schedule of availability will be posted at the lab. The help desk located just a few steps down the hall will be available for questions and assistance.

  • Monday - Thursday ~ 8:30 am - 9:30 pm
  • Friday ~ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday ~ Closed

HSB 109

This new teaching lab is excellent for classes that require technology and for the times that technology needs to be put aside. The desks are styled with a hideaways for the monitors and keyboards. The PCs are the newest generation of Dells, built to meet the computing needs of our campus.

This classroom is equipped with Pentium IV PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, instructor podium with DVD/VCR players and document camera, network video projector, interactive whiteboard, and touch panel control system.

UHB 2025 [30 workstations]

This classroom is equipped with Pentium IV PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, two network video projectors, interactive whiteboard, instructor podium with DVD/VCR players and document camera, and touch panel control system.

BRK 413 [24 workstations]

BRK413 Teaching Computer Lab

This computer lab is mainly used by the Teacher Education Program [TEP] and the Center for Teaching and Learning [CTL] for classes and software training. When not used by these programs, faculty may reserve this lab for their classes. The lab houses Pentium IV PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, scanners and web cameras, microphones and headphones, a B&W laser printer, video projector, and an instructor station with the ability to view and control other PCs in the lab.

PAC 493 [27 workstations]

PAC493 Teaching Computer Lab

This lab is used mainly for lectures and software training. It houses an instructor station, video projector, sound system, VCR player, Pentium III PCs with zip drives, and a B&W laser printer.

HRB 111 [37 workstations]

HRB 111

Used mainly for lectures and software training, this lab houses Pentium IV PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, instructor podium with DVD/VCR players, video projector, B&W laser printer.
