About Commencement 2017

Graduating Students Celebrate at the UIS ColonnadeThe 46th annual UIS commencement ceremonies will be held at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in downtown Springfield, 9th and Adams streets, on Saturday, May 13, 2017.  There will be two ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  The ceremonies will be divided by college and information regarding when each college will participate will be forthcoming. See our Visitors page for directions and information for out of town guests.

Each year, the faculty and students who comprise each program committee on campus select one graduating student who best exemplifies the goals and spirit of each program.  Those students are then designated as program marshals for the ceremony and may be identified on commencement day by the gold stoles they wear.

The procession is led by the Grand Marshal.  The Grand Marshal is an honorary title conferred each year on a professor by vote of the UIS faculty.  The 2017 Grand Marshal is TBA
