When STUDENTS attempt to add a link to a Camtasia Relay presentation to the Blackboard Discussion Board, the link does not work. The is NOT a problem for instructors.

Issue has been reported to Blackboard.

Direct your students to use the free Bit.ly URL shortening tool to abbreviate the link to the Camtasia Relay presentation. Students will be able to successfully post the shortened link to Blackboard’s discussion board.

Bit.ly doesn’t require your students to create an account in order to shorten a URL. Students should go to http://bit.ly/, paste in the link to their Camtasia Relay presentation, and click on the Shorten button. On the next screen, students should click on the Copy link. Now they are ready to add the URL to Blackboard’s discussion board.

Instructors may also fix the link to the presenations by editing each student’s posts in the discussion board, fixing the link, and re-submitting the post.

Create Assignment option not available in content areas (Course Documents, Course Materials, etc)

Empty course shells were mistakenly created with this feature turned off for Fall 2010.

Turn on graded assignments (assignment manager).

Go to Control Panel > Customization > Tool Availability > Check the box for Assignment in the Available in Content Area column > Click Submit.

Daily Dashboard Notification email lists unread Discussion Board posts that are not unread posts in Blackboard.

Issue has been reported to Blackboard.

Disregard this notification. The number of unread Discussion Board postings is not accurate.

Announcement notification not being emailed when Announcements are set to permanent availability.

Issue has been reported to Blackboard.

A workaround is to, after submission, go back in to edit the announcement and submit again. Announcement will now be sent via email.

A patch applied in January 2011 will fix this issue.

When Collecting Posts using the Unread posts page, the Mark As Read feature does not work. 

User is using Internet Explorer

Choose one:
1. Download and use Firefox
2. Upgrade to later version of Internet Explorer 7 or use Internet Explorer 8 in Compatibility Mode.
3. To change to “compatibility mode” in IE8 (Tools > Compatibility View Settings > Check ‘Display all websites in Compatibility View’ > Close. You will need to close IE8 and reopen the browser before the change takes effect.)

Postings are cut off/truncated in the Discussion Board, and do not show up to some users. The formatting is also incorrect or only shows “parent post” and not text.

User copied and pasted from Microsoft Word

Choose One:
1. Use Word Pad to compose your work
2. Save Word (PC) / iWork (Mac) document as Rich Text Format. Close document and re-open it. Now, cut and paste your text into Blackboard.
3. To see posts that others submitted, download and use Firefox which will display Word copy/paste.

The To Do Module on the home pages of courses is not populating with changes made to the course.

Students cannot post content in the HTML view of Discussion Board, or any video or images added. do not stick.

You cannot see the navigation for your Blackboard Course. It remains hidden even after loggin out and then back into Blackboard.

The ‘Collapse’ button hides the Course Menu.

To solve the issue click on the expand button located on the left side of the screen to make the Course Menu visible.

If a # sign is included when naming items that automatically create columns in the Grade Center (e.g., Test, Survey, Assignments, Safe Assignments), users won’t be able to download all the files from the Grade Center in bulk.

If any user is added to more than 10 groups, an error appears every time user clicks inside the course. The error reads “Not Implemented.”

To list all users in a course, go to Control Panel > Users & Groups > Users. Enter a percent sign (%) in the Search box or choose “List All” and click Go

Self and Peer Assessment answers are truncated at paragraph returns.

Copying from MS Word

Students should be advised not to copy and paste from MS Word into Self and Peer Assessments and should paste from plain text using a program such as Notepad.

Selecting Mark as Read on Grade Forum page does not work; the postings do not mark as read.

SCORM 1.2 content does not load in Firefox

Java Issue

Use Internet Explorer to view SCORM content or upon initial loading of the SCORM content in Firefox when the following message pops up: “650094-ff-java.jpg,” it is necessary to click “Don’t show this message again.” Then Continue.

Tracking Reports (View Statistics) on content items are not processing using Internet Explorer.

Browser issue

Blackboard recommends that users use Firefox to process Tracking Reports.

When there are multiple attempts on an assignment, if some of the attempts are left ungraded, even when the Last Attempt is graded, the Grade Center displays a “!” rather than the score on the last attempt.

In the Discussion Board, the thread navigation buttons do not display an edit threads option for students and do not work as expected.

Course Copy: Browse for courses – when users click “created” to sort by date created they encounter a java error: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: Unknown property ‘dtCreated’ For reference, the Error ID is 3d4d7337-00e2-46da-84b3-b84c914e0fcd.

Students receive a “The following questions may be incomplete: x, x, x. Continue?” message when submitting an assessment in which they clicked the Save Answer button next to one or more questions even though the answers are clearly marked.

It is best to advise students NOT to click the Save Answer button next to assessment questions but to use the Save All Answers button at the bottom of the assessment. A workaround for assessments in which the Save Answer button has already been clicked is to click OK to submit the assessment; the answers will save during submission.

When grading SafeAssignment submissions on the Grade Details page of the Grade Center, instructors cannot see or download student file itself.

Instructors can click a course menu item to leave the Grade Center, then may re-enter it to continue grading. Instructors may also wish to use the Assignment Manager instead of Safe Assignments until we have a fix. You can still check for plagiarism using the Direct Submit option in the SafeAssign control panel.

Some Calculated Formula question types are not working correctly in assessments; instructors get an error when adding formulas to questions.
