John
Blackburn, chief executive officer of COUNTRY Insurance &

In
that role, he will help direct the overall effort and provide advice
to the UIS staff who are coordinating the commission. Mr. Blackburn,
who lives in Lincoln, received his masters in Educational
Leadership from UIS. I am delighted that a person of his stature

Commission kickoff event set for March 28
Between
150 and 200 people serving on 13 task forces are being invited to
the kickoff event for the National Commission on the Future of UIS.
The membership of the 13 task forces
is still being finalized.
The
event will take place Friday afternoon, March 28, at UIS. Chancellor
Richard D. Ringeisen will give a speech to launch the event, as
will John Blackburn, the commission chair, in Brookens Auditorium.
Then
the 13 task forces will meet separately to begin discussing how
UIS will be different 10 years from now. They will conclude their
work by September 15.
I
am excited that the pieces for the national commission are falling
into place, Dr. Ringeisen said. We have needed this
kind of visioning exercise for some time, and I am pleased that
it is happening. I think it will give our faculty, staff and students
reasons to have high hopes for the future.
