The University of Illinois at Springfield invites applications for the:
Ameren Distinguished Professorship in Business and Government.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

The Ameren Professorship of Business and Government will work in a multi-disciplinary environment with a variety of business and social science scholars and will be engaged in research, teaching, and outreach to corporate and government constituencies.  He or she will possess demonstrated expertise and scholarly interest in public policy issues as they affect the free-enterprise system and will develop relevant curriculum centered on this interface.  Topics of teaching, research and outreach could include regulations of business and the functioning of competitive systems; economic analysis of public policy, including anti-trust, mergers and pricing; economic analysis of market failures, including the economic effects of regulation, optimal strategies, and regulatory reform; economic factors shaping innovation and technical change, including the role of the government in technical change; and the legal environment of business, including the legal system and trends in law affecting corporations. 

The Ameren Professor will offer lectures and seminars for students and corporate, political, and civic leaders regarding issues at the forefront of the interface between business and government, as well as attract other speakers of national stature.  The Ameren Professor will be expected to help the university develop and maintain strong relationships with other universities, associations, regulatory bodies, businesses, and politicians; and to build a national reputation for leadership in this growing field.  

The Ameren Professor will produce periodic publications to educate and impact a variety of constituencies about the state of regulation and other public policy issues.

Qualifications

An advanced degree, extensive experience and a demonstrated record of publication in the analysis, development and application of public policy issues as they affect the free enterprise system.

Demonstrated expertise regarding the development of public policy, especially regulatory processes, and expertise in evaluating the affect of public policy on businesses and society.

An aptitude for instructional excellence, and excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with diverse situations that include students, scholars, legislators, business leaders, lobbyists, etc.
