The common goal of UIS faculty, staff, and the Career Development Center is student success. As stated in the UIS mission statement, “UIS provides its students with the knowledge, skills, and experience that lead to productive careers in the private and public sectors.” Therefore, the Career Development Center would like to formally invite the UIS staff and faculty to partner with us in promoting career development to students to ensure a seamless transition from college to the work force.
Use the GOALS Program as a resource for class activities– The Goals program was developed as a user friendly tool to engage students, staff and faculty to assist students in becoming more proactive in career development. Since the program reflects a comprehensive approach to career planning, the information can be easily integrated into classroom and extra-curricular activities.
We help students enhance soft skills and business etiquette– In order for UIS students to be competitive in the global market, employers want employees who have the necessary soft skills and polished presentation. Encourage students to take advantage of the many services and programming provided by the Career Development Center by offering extra credit or making it a class assignment.
We help your students find the right fit- We help students determine the right career for their interests, career goals, skills, values and personality. During their academic careers, students return to the Career Development Center for services to develop essential job-search skills. We are a student's best resource for job outlook, salary, and employment trend information.
We know employers who want to know you- At the Career Development Center, we work directly with employers, who often ask for the contact information of faculty members who could help them target students in a particular major or discipline. Ideally, employers would like to develop mutually beneficial relationships with faculty, and can provide many forms of support. We can facilitate that connection.
Our career fair attracts many recruiters to one event- Our career fair provides excellent opportunities for your students to meet representatives from the companies in their industries of choice and establish a network of contacts. We will help your students research the employers beforehand and provide tips, so they are prepared to effectively engage recruiters.
We help students master the job interview- There is no better way to prepare for the job interview than by experiencing an "actual" interview. At the Career Development Center, our Career Counselors will conduct mock interviews with your students and provide a constructive critique of their performance and effective interview strategies.
We'll bring the information to your class- We specialize in conducting presentations to the classes you teach and the student organizations you advise about a host of career-related topics, such as resume writing, job-search strategies, and interviewing skills.
