UIS Career Connect?

UIS CareerConnect is an online career management system provided by the UIS Career Development Center and their on-campus partners. It connects students and employers.

Why Use UIS Career Connect?

  • Only place on-campus student worker positions are posted
  • Find off campus part-time jobs, internship, volunteer opportunities and more
  • Place to schedule  Career Fast Pass Sessions to have resume reviewed or meet with a career counselor

How do I get an UIS Student Career Connect Account?

  • You automatically will have an account created within 2 working days after  you register for classes
  • Can begin to access account beginning July 1st

Where do I find UIS CareerConnect?

Logging in for the first time?

  • Select the “Students: Get Password”  link
  • Username is your netID  without @uis.edu
  • Password  will be sent to your UIS email password

What does UIS Career Connect have to do with my resume?

  • Need to upload your resume before you can apply for UIS student worker positions and apply for opportunities posted
  • Can only apply for on-campus student jobs through UIS CareerConnect

How do I upload my resume into UIS Career Connect?

  • Select the “My Documents”  tab located on the top bar on your homepage of UIS CareerConnect
  • Scroll down to the “Add New” button and select the  “Resume” button
  • Title your resume then browse for  resume you want to upload

Why was my resume not accepted into UIS CareerConnect?

  • All resumes are reviewed to ensure they meet the basic minimum requirements
  • Read the email received from the Career Center to find out what you need to change
  • Re-upload after making the required changes

What are the Resume Requirements?
The requirements your resume must meet are outlined below.

  • Resumes should not be longer than 2 pages.
  • Have a 2 page resume?  Place your name only at the top of second page
  • Do not use personal pronouns (I, me, my, she/her, he/his, we/our, they/their).
  • References should not be included on your resume.
    • Create a Reference Document to provide employer when requested. Upload as “other Document ” in CareerConnect
  • Use proper grammar and correct spelling.
  • Personal information such as race, gender, weight, religion, marital status, social security number or UIN are not to be placed on resume
  • Include UIS degree in progress first then add your High School diploma
  • Use a 10 point font size or larger
  • Work Experience Section
    • Describe the skills used on the job
    • Use concise phrases beginning with strong action word
    • Avoid using sentences as they not appropriate for resumes
    • Example: – Communicated with a wide variety of clients in person and phone

How do I find the on-campus Student Employment jobs posted on UIS Career Connect?

  • Login to your UIS CareerConnect account
  • Locate the “Shortcuts” Section
  • Click the links for the Work Study or Undergraduate Student Employment

How do I apply for Jobs in Career Connect?

The employer is requesting a copy of my unofficial transcripts.  What do I do?

  • Start by going to  Registration
  • Scroll down to the Records Section and select “View Semester Grades/Academic History”
  • Click on Student Faculty Self Servicc and select “University of Illinois at Springfield”
  • Enter your enterprise ID and password then click on “Registration and Records”
  • Click on Student Records/Transcripts the select “View Academic History” and Submit
  • Copy and paste the transcripts into a word document and save to your desktop and save
  • Login to your homepage of CareerConnect
  • Select the ‘My Documents” tab located on the top bar of on your homepage
  • Scroll down to the “Add New” button and select the “Unofficial Transcripts” button
  • Title your transcript then browses for your word document with transcripts embedded
  • Submit

How do I get my class schedule in Career Connect?

  • Go to “My.uis” and Sign In
  • Click on “Academics” tab then select “Registration”
  • Under the Registration tab click on “Sign Up for My Courses” located on the right side of the page
  • Click on “Student Schedule-detail
  • Copy your schedule and paste into a Word Document then save
  • Go to Career Connect and select the “My Documents” tab
  • Select “Add New” button at the bottom
  • Click on “Other Document” button
  • Name the document “Class Schedule
  • Click on Browse, find the Class Schedule Word Document saved and Submit

  • Use OPTIMALRESUME an online resume creation resource located on your CareerConnect homepage
  • Get great resume advise, worksheets and resources from the CDC’s Resume Webpage
  • Schedule a Career Fast Pass session to have resume reviewed and receive suggestions in 4 EZ Steps:
    • Login to UIS CareerConnect
    • Click on the Events/Fast Pass tab at the top of your screen
    • Pick a date/time and then click the RSVP button
    • Show up! (or meet us via Skype, or call in)
  • Visit CDC Career Suite located in SAB 50 during office hours to use resume library, access online tools and receive basic assistance

 


Alumni – CareerConnect

  • Search and review job, internship, volunteer, fellowship and scholarship postings
  • Upload resumes for employers to search
  • Access other online tools including: OptmalResume, Focus, GoingGlobal
  • Find alumni and professional mentor contacts
  • Search and view employer profiles
  • View Professional Development event calendar
  • Establish an employer account (see below) and list internship and job opportunities with your organization

Alumni: Register for a New Account

  • Register now – Complete form and don’t forget to select UIS Alumnus(a) under Applicant Type
  • You will receive an email with payment instructions; select your package option and make payment within one week or your account will be deleted
  • After payment is made you will receive an additional email with login instructions to UIS CareerConnect

Faculty & Staff: Register for a New Account

  • Register now – Complete form and don’t forget to select UIS Faculty/Staff under Applicant Type
  • After submitting form, you will receive an email with the status of your approval and login instructions

Employers – Career Connect

  • Post jobs, internships, and other opportunities for UIS students and alumni
  • Collect resumes and other application materials from UIS students and alumni
  • Schedule on-campus interviews with UIS students and alumni
  • Search student and alumni resumes for qualified candidates
