Pat Langley, Chair
Professor, Women's Studies and Legal Studies
Pat Langley is a lawyer by training and professor and advocate for faculty and shared governance by interest. She began teaching in 1977 in Sangamon State's interdisciplinary Legal Studies B.A. and M.A. program. Her interests have shifted considerably over the years, from legal studies to women's studies to queer theory. Her current intellectual and teaching interests include queer theory; sexual orientation, gender expression and public policy; and feminist theories. She is the convenor of the Women's Studies Program.
In addition to serving as Chair of the UIS Campus Senate, she has served on the UI Senates Conference--the coordinating committee of the three UI campus senates. Fighting a trend that is turning American public higher education into an intellectual Walmart, she is committed to keeping UIS as democratic, flexible and non-corporate as possible. She also works in the community, providing training for feminist organizations and working for and with queer groups. She has been a board member for the local chapter of PFLAG the last few years.
