Educational benefits for university employees
UIS provides tuition waivers and fee exemptions as a benefit associated
with University employment. Employees may visit the Office
of Human Resources (HR) web site or call 206-6652 for more information.
Tuition waivers, some fee exemptions or reimbursed payment for courses
may be granted to employees and retirees for regular courses (established
curriculum at any of the U of I campuses, including on-line courses with
an online fee per credit hour payable by the employee), special courses,
refund courses and directed study courses.
Employee eligibility and credit limitations differ for academic professional
and civil service staff. Online waiver application forms for classes at
the U of I campuses must be completed each semester and are available
for benefit eligible employees by going to the HR website, then going
to NESSIE, Life Events,
and Continuing Your Education. HR staff will be happy to assist any employee
with questions/information regarding educational benefits.
It is important to know that employee requests for tuition waivers for
courses taken here on campus have a deadline each semester. If the NESSIE
waiver is not received in HR prior to the end of the semester in which
the course(s) is/(are) taken, they will not be approved and the cost of
tuition will be the responsibility of the employee. It is the employee's
responsibility to ensure that the proper paperwork is completed and submitted
in the appropriate time frame.
