The classroom is where our faculty shine. One such professor is Richard Judd who says of his goal in the classroom: “My job is to facilitate learning. I try as best I can to help students … I want them to learn. What does that take? I will do whatever it takes to keep a live, vibrant environment.” The faculty bring to the classroom many years of real world experience and strong educational backgrounds. Our professors hold advanced degrees from such institutions as Indiana University, St. Louis University, Tulane University, University of Arkansas, University of Georgia, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Mississippi, and the University of Pittsburg. Teaching excellence is the number one priority for business faculty, and they use a blend of teaching styles that include lectures, case studies, computer based simulation, and team based projects.
Internship opportunities are available through the UIS' Applied Study Term. ASTs enable students to integrate classroom studies with practical experience and earn credit at the same time. For students who have not worked in their field of interest, the Applied Study Term is a chance to get valuable experience and to make contacts that may help in finding employment. Students who are already employed in their chosen career field can take advantage of the AST requirement to gain new responsibilities or to explore related options. Students may complete an AST in their career workplace, provided they take on new or additional responsibilities or work in a different area from their regular employment.
