Wheeler is a veteran newsman who came to the University of Illinois Springfield following a 24-year career at the Chicago Sun-Times. Wheeler’s Public Affairs Reporting (PAR) students learn by doing. The one year master’s degree program is designed to prepare its graduates to become working reporters covering public affairs. Students learn in the classroom and through hands-on internships with professional journalists at the Illinois State Capitol.
