Wayne & Margie Fox Award – 2011

  • Kyle Nestlehut, a BBA student from Beecher, Illinois, received the 2011 Wayne and Margie Fox award. The Fox award targets an exemplary Business College student who completes an internship with a Springfield area not for profit organization. A generous award to the university from Wayne and Margie Fox funds this $1,000 award. Kyle’s work for the YMCA in Springfield and his academic coursework were considered.

Included below are highlights of Kyle’s work with the YMCA last spring, demonstrating the experience & knowledge he gained during the AST and how his work at the YMCA impacted achievement of their mission and provided service to the Springfield community.

Responsible for instructor scheduling and coverage for aquatic classes and verifying that employees maintain appropriate credentials (e.g. CPR certification, lifeguard certification) required for their duties.

He dealt with emergency situations including a small fire at the Y that included getting the fire department on site.

For the first time he organized an analysis of the 5 year usage of Y developed programs. He presented to the Board and his product was helpful in future planning.

Kyle helped develop a set of policies and procedures to conduct more extensive reviews/checks of applicants and new employees to confirm suitability (e.g. review of facebook and myspace and internet sites).

Kyle worked on the Spring Kids Health program.

Congratulations to Kyle on this honor, and as Associate Dean Dyanne Ferk told Kyle during the AST site visit, “Thank you for making UIS proud and representing UIS students so well.”
