Phuc Ngoc Hoang: “As you know, international students often find it a hard time to be able to communicate with local people. But since I started my internship, it has helped me improve my communication skills, my confidence as well as team-building, leadership, and networking.”

Phuc Ngoc Hoang had the opportunity to work for Enroll America for his internship for his Business Administration degree. His supervisor was Scott Cross.  According to his supervisor, Phuc was very conscientious about his job and was sincere in his appreciation for the opportunity to meet with so many Americans in the course of his job.

Phuc is earning a BBA with a Marketing Concentration and a Minor in Communication. He is an international student at UIS and his home country is Vietnam.

In Phuc Ngoc Hoang’s own words:  “I had an internship with Enroll America (Get Covered America) in the fall semester of 2014. The most amazing experience I have ever had was helping uninsured people get health insurance around Springfield. My teammates and I had to go canvassing on the streets, talked to people and educated them about the new affordable healthcare. It was not an easy task to do; however, it brought me joys and happiness whenever I thought of how happy a person could be, if he/she had an insurance to go to see a doctor. A lot of people did not know they could be eligible for the health insurance.

“As you know, international students often find it a hard time to be able to communicate with local people. But since I started my internship, it has helped me improve my communication skills, my confidence as well as team-building, leadership, and networking. I had a wonderful time exchanging cultures with my teammates and my supervisor. My teammates came from Vietnam, China and India. We had fun and learned a lot of things from each other. My supervisor gave me useful advice, so I can be a better person and be prepared for my future career as well.

“If I had a second chance, I would still do an internship with Enroll America. The internship brought me opportunities to grow all possible skill sets which would benefit me for my future career and have an insight of the American culture.”
