Letter from Mayor Lester Collins inviting  Attorney George Hoffman to a public meeting to discuss the prospects for a four-year college in Springfield. Following this meeting, the Springfield Committee for Higher Education was formed, with Hoffmann as its chairman. The efforts of the Committee to bring a university to the capital city ended successfully with the opening of Sangamon State University in 1970.
