CAPE AWARD

Mark Dochterman, director of the University of Illinois Springfield Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center, is the recipient of the 13th annual Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) Award. The award was presented by Chancellor Susan J. Koch during a ceremony on April 28, 2016.

APAC ANNOUNCES 2015 SURVEY RESULTS

The UIS Academic Professional Advisory Committee (APAC) conducted a campus wide survey of AP members between March 10th and March 27th. The purpose of the survey was to gather information to assist in guiding APAC’s agenda for the next Academic year and increase Academic Professional Employee involvement.

CAPE AWARD

Jim Korte, dean of students at the University of Illinois Springfield, was honored with the 12th annual Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award (CAPE) on April 23, 2015.

“Korte brings to all of his efforts at UIS warm collegiality, historical knowledge, reasonableness, caring, and a balanced perspective between the needs of students and the needs of the University,” said his nominator. “Jim Korte is an effective problem solver and works well with students, because he listens actively and finds solutions.”

 APAC Campus Wide Meeting 

APAC has scheduled its annual Campus Wide Meeting on Monday, March 9, 2015, in Brookens Auditorium. Coffee and breakfast items will be available at 8:30 AM in the Brookens Auditorium Lobby.

The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM.

Chancellor Susan Koch and Provost Lynn Pardie will address the group, and APAC will present its annual review and committee reports.


 APAC PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDING AWARDED

APAC is pleased to have distributed Professional Development Funding for FY 2015 to assist Academic Professionals at UIS with professional development.

Each AP employed at least 50% time could apply for up to $1200 for use toward any aspect of professional development during FY 2015 (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015).  Examples include subscriptions to journals, conference and meeting registration, conference travel, workshops, and costs associated with a college course.

Each AP employed at least 50% time may apply for up to $1200 for use toward any aspect of professional development during FY 2015 (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015).  Examples include subscriptions to journals, conference and meeting registration, conference travel, workshops, and costs associated with a college course. 

Applications are due at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014. Late applications will not be accepted. Award announcements will be made no later than Friday, November 14, 2014.

CAPE AWARD

Tarah Sweeting-Trotter, undergraduate academic advisor at the University of Illinois Springfield, was honored with the 11th annual Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award (CAPE) on April 24, 2014.

Sweeting-Trotter’s nominator notes “she spends extra time, extra effort and goes above and beyond for her students. She has a very can-do-attitude and is a pleasure to work with.”

Emily Boles, computer assisted instruction specialist with the UIS Center for Online Learning, Research, and Service (COLRS) , was honored with the 10th annual CAPE Award on April 17, 2013.

The Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) Award honors all Academic Professionals at UIS by recognizing one outstanding AP each year.

Budget/Retirement Financial Workshop

APAC sponsored a workshop on budgetting and financial planning with guest speaker Jiffy Johnson on Thursday, Februrary 16, 2012, from 12:05 pm – 12:55 pm in the PAC Restaurant. During the workshop, a complimentary lunch was provided. The program was free and open to all staff.


RESOLUTION RECOGNIZES INTERIM CHANCELLOR

HARRY J. BERMAN

At our June 9, 2011 meeting, the Academic Professional Advisory Committee (APAC) unanimously passed and sent to Interim Chancellor Berman the following resolution:

RESOLUTION

June 9, 2011

WHEREAS, Harry J. Berman, during his tenures as UIS Provost and Interim Chancellor, has provided sustained and invaluable support to UIS Academic Professionals; and

WHEREAS, Harry J. Berman brought about a welcome and most needed salary equity plan; and

WHEREAS, Harry J. Berman implemented an annual APAC Professional Development Fund that provides opportunities for UIS APs to enlarge and enhance their academic and professional skills; and

WHEREAS, Harry J. Berman, by these examples and more, attended to the needs and concerns of UIS APs;

THEREFORE, be it resolved that Academic Professional Advisory Committee of the University of Illinois Springfield hereby recognizes and thanks Harry J. Berman for his contributions to UIS Academic Professionals that enhance the lives of APs and enrich the UIS culture.


Chancellor Richard Ringeisen and Provost Harry Berman presided at two open forums regarding UIS staff furlough days and Illinois budget.

The chancellor has setup a method for members of the community submit remarks or questions regarding the recent forums.
