Sophomores Overview

” It’s wonderful how the advising center cares about students and leading them into the right path.” -Talia, Class of 2013

studentsWelcome to new and returning sophomores. Students who have successfully completed 30 semester hours are considered sophomores. Sophomores who entered UIS as freshmen are transitioned to a professional and faculty advisor in their major program after successfully completing 30 semester hours. Your first year of college is behind you and the year ahead is full of promise, hope, and new challenges. If you have not already formally declared your major, this is the year to prepare to do so.

Returning students devised your fall schedules and registered for classes in the spring. Contact your advisor as soon as possible in the first week of school if you need to make changes to that schedule.

The Advising Center can assist new transfer sophomores correctly identify their college professional advisor and/or major faculty advisor, as well as provide assistance with DARS and connecting to other support units on campus. Newly entering sophomores need to contact their major advisor and schedule an advising appointment as early as possible once you have accepted your transfer admission. Your first semester at any new institution is bound to present some challenges as you adjust. The Advising Center is here to help smooth your transition.

We look forward to working with you!
