First Year Overview

“The Advising Center has been a tremendous help to planning my courses so I can achieve my goals!” -Angela, Class of 2013

studentsWelcome to UIS! Your first semester of your first year as a college student is full of excitement, hope, and unknowns. The Advising Center is here to help you navigate your way through new classes, new experiences, and new responsibilities. After submitting your deposit, your first contact will be with the Orientation Office to schedule Summer Orientation and the Advising Center (OASIS) to start preparing your first semester schedule of courses for Registration. These events launch your first semester experience and are vitally important to getting started on the right foot.

You will receive several pieces of correspondence in the spring prior to your first semester. Many forms need to be completed and returned in order to schedule your orientation, schedule and complete your placement testing (if required, prior to orientation), complete your housing and financial aid applications, and make important decisions about your first classes. Take the time to read through these documents and note important deadlines.

We look forward to working with you!
