A Very Special Celebration
On Tuesday, November 3, over 300 donors, recipients, faculty, and staff met in the UIS PAC Lobby for what has to be one of the most joyous events of the year: the annual UIS Scholarship Luncheon. At the luncheon, donors get to share a meal with their scholarship recipients, often meeting their recipients for the first time. You can see a video from the event here.
Pam McClelland, Previous Recipient, Current Donor
At this year’s luncheon, previous scholarship recipient Pam McClelland spoke in honor of beloved former accountancy professor Don Stanhope. When Dr. Stanhope decided to retire, his colleagues established a scholarship in honor of the man they called the “founding father of the Accountancy department.”
Recognizing the importance of scholarships in her own life, Pam McClelland, who earned not only her undergraduate and master’s degree in Accountancy, has funded her own scholarship, the Pamela McClelland Accounting Scholarship.
Michele Stine, Current Recipient
Stanhope scholarship recipient Michele Stine also spoke. Michele is an accountancy student who has received the Stanhope scholarship. Among her comments: “In today’s economy when monetary resources are scarce and could be invested in a variety of manners to have generous donors going above and beyond to invest in the educational goals of others is immeasurable.”
Theresa Cummings, Donor
Theresa Cummings, scholarship donor, shared what a special feeling it is to know the difference she is making in a student’s life. You can see Theresa with her scholarship recipient at right.
