Graduate Program Application Requirements

Public Health, MPH

Public health professionals are involved in activities that insure that the community is healthy. The practice of public health is necessarily interdisciplinary requiring the ability to assess the health needs of the community and to identify, formulate and implement policies to address health priority issues.

The ultimate educational intent of the Master of Public Health [M.P.H.] program is to graduate competent public health generalists knowledgeable in all aspects of public health practice. The generalist public health professional needs to have a broad understanding of public health issues and a strong scientific basis to intelligently relate to diverse public health topics.

In achieving this goal the program expects students to acquire the leadership skills as well as the desired knowledge to critically analyze the myriad of issues in various segments of public health practice.

Admission is a two-part process. The first part is to complete the UIS Application for Graduate Admission.

The second part expects applicants to complete the program application (available below), to submit a goals essay, to submit three references using the reference form available below, and to take the GRE General test. Applicants may submit reference letters instead of using the reference form. Applicants may submit other graduate proficiency exams, such as GMAT or MCAT in lieu of the GRE. Students who have already earned a post-Bachelopr's credential do not need to submit GRE scores.

All Public Health Department application materials (program application, goals essay, and three reference letters) should be sent to
