Net-driven Employee Self-Service and Information Environment (NESSIE) is an electronic environment maintained by the University of Illinois Office of Human Resources that enables employees on all three campuses to process personnel transactions online and view information related to their work environment and employment status. Employees receive email verification of NESSIE transactions. NESSIE is one of several web-based applications developed by the University Office of Human Resources to streamline personnel transactions and eliminate paper forms. NESSIE includes an index and the following major components:
Your Benefits
This component contains information on health, dental, vision, retirement, and life insurance plans. In addition, this section contains benefit forms and information on the "Benefits on Call" system, sick, vacation, and parental leave. Employees can also view a current Benefits Statement, change benefit status, and donate to the Shared Benefits Program (see Shared Benefits Program in this section of the handbook).
Your Career
This section contains information on classification requests and an online version of classification specifications. Employees can find job announcements for each campus here. Employees can also submit a Civil Service Exam Request form.
Your Compensation
This component contains information on staff compensation plans and open range salary rates. Employees are able to submit a Direct Deposit or Withholding Allowance request (W-4) form, as well as view a current Earnings Statement that itemizes year-to-date gross salary and payroll deductions.
Your File
In this section employees can update personal information such as home address, education, emergency contacts, work history, or publication history. Employees can also arrange for an outside vendor (i.e., mortgage company or bank) to view their employment verification electronically. Employees can review and print their annual Notification of Appointment and changes in salary. They can also review their current employment status in this section, as there is generally no written University notification of salary changes or annual reappointment.
Your Life Events
This section takes an employee step-by-step through Human Resource-related aspects of life events such as getting married, having a family, getting divorced, facing survivor issues, going to college, or getting a loan.
Your Work Environment
This area includes details on civil service statutes and rules, federal employment legislation, EEO policies, University of Illinois Board of Trustees policies and rules, state employment legislation, and current campus labor contracts.

NESSIE Help
NESSIE Help provides assistance with errors encountered while using NESSIE.
Procedures for Accessing NESSIE
The URL for NESSIE is http://nessie.uihr.uillinois.edu. Access NESSIE by using your own NetID and password, which is the same as your network logon and password. The NetID logon for NESSIE uses the following format: NetID@uis.edu. This individualized logon allows NESSIE to immediately identify and differentiate each employee.
