Educational Support

International Affairs

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) provides services for incoming international students, faculty and staff as well as for UIS students interested in studying in another country.

OIA staff provide support services for international students, faculty and staff at UIS. This includes helping with the interpretation of governmental and institutional regulations and campus and community orientation. The office publishes updates regularly to inform students of activities and immigration regulations.

OIA also houses the Global Experience Program, UIS' Study Abroad Program. UIS has sister schools in England and Japan and is developing relationships with a number of universities around the world. In 2004/2005 it is anticipated that the OIA will coordinate programs in Poland, Japan, China, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, France, England, Romania and Jamaica. Students may also use the resources of the OIA to identify study programs from most any country. OIA also provides support for UIS faculty to develop study abroad seminars and programs.

In addition OIA organizes the annual International Festival each fall. For 2004 the festival will be held on October 24th in the PAC Studio Theatre and Cafeteria. Other programming coordinated by the OIA includes America Night, Japan Night, food sales, field trips, cross-cultural workshops, a speakers bureau and a performing arts series.
