UIS Campus Web Policy
The UIS Campus Web Policy was established in 2002 to ensure a high quality, marketing- and service-oriented Web presence, including a coordinated presentation of accurate and important information, directed to a wide variety of constituents.
The UIS Web Policy describes the use of campus Web sites in accordance with state and federal laws, and campus and university policies.
The UIS Office of Web Services is responsible for managing and maintaining the UIS World Wide Web presence, in conjunction with the UIS Information Technology Services department and the Campus Web Team, composed of Web Liaisons from campus divisions. See the UIS Office of Web Services Web site for the names and contact information of the Web Liaisons.
The UIS Office of Web Services is responsible for advising the Chancellor’s Cabinet on changes to guidelines and procedures, and for submitting significant issues for Cabinet consideration prior to implementation.
Faculty, Staff, and Students at UIS must comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies as stated in the Campus Web Policy.
Office of Web Services
The UIS Office of Web Services oversees the primary UIS Web site, including the campus home page and the top-level pages of the site. This office creates and maintains the UIS Web Policy and coordinates all matters related to Web sites at UIS.
The Office of Web Services heads the Campus Web Team, which is composed of Web Liaisons who are responsible for the accuracy of content of the web sites in each of the three divisions. Web Services also heads the Web Production Team, which is composed of campus personnel who help plan and maintain the technical aspects of the UIS Web site.
The Office of Web Services focuses on four critical areas:
Beginning in the summer of 2004, the Office of Web Services began planning for a major redevelopment of the primary UIS Web site. We are using a Web Publishing System and Official Web Page Templates to recreate all department and academic program websites with three important issues in mind:
Production of new websites began in January 2006; we expect it will take until January 2009 to redevelop the majority of websites on the primary UIS Web Server.
Campus units will be informed when we are ready to recreate their websites. At that time, the Office of Web Services will construct your new Web site using the content you prepare. We will install special software on your computer, and teach you how to easily maintain your website.
