Mail Service

The Campus Mail Center handles all campus mail and mail-related parcels. The United States Postal Service (USPS) is used for sending most letter mail and United Parcel Service (UPS) is used for shipping most packages. Please furnish a complete UPS Request Form when submitting a package for UPS. The form can be obtained at the following web site: http://www.uis.edu/campusservices/ups_form.htm.

Intra-Campus Mail

Intra-campus mail envelopes in a variety of sizes are available from Central Stores. These envelopes should be used to send mail to faculty and staff on the UIS campus. When addressing the envelopes, the individual’s name, department and mail stop should be clearly printed on the front of the envelope.

Campus-wide Mail

Mail to be distributed to the campus community can be delivered in bulk to the Mail Center for processing. Contact the Mail Center for quantity needed for campus-wide distribution.

Overnight Mail

Overnight mail services are available through the Mail Center. The campus uses either the United States Postal Service (USPS) or United Parcel Service (UPS). Charges for these services are billed via the Mail Authorization form.

Mail Procedures

  • Campus mail personnel pick up all incoming U.S. mail from the Post Office every workday morning, arriving on campus approximately 9:00 A.M for sorting.
  • Incoming USPS mail is sorted and distributed, with intra-campus mail, each workday between 10:30 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.
  • All outbound USPS mail is picked up during the delivery cycle and processed for the United States Postal Service by 3:30 P.M.
  • Standard Mail (formerly Third Class Bulk), Express, Special Delivery, Registered, Certified, and International mail are processed at the Mail Center.
  • Outgoing parcels (packages up to 100 lbs.), both regular and next day, are processed at the Mail Center.
  • First Class stamps for business-related mailings are available from Campus Services in BSB 139 (ext. 6-6776).
  • Postage for all outgoing mail is charged to the respective department/program/unit through the use of Mail Authorization forms available from the Mail Center.
  • Campus Mail personnel maintain current information on postal statutes and rates.

Campus Services/Mail Services

Fax Service

A centralized fax service is available for use by the UIS campus community at the location listed below. Faculty, staff, or students can use this service to send or receive business-related or personal faxes. Incoming faxes need to identify the specific recipient to ensure delivery. The cost of this service is paid for by the department or user. Faxes are delivered when mail is delivered.
