Class Acts Performances

The goal of Class Acts, Sangamon Auditorium’s daytime performing arts series for youth, is to present artistic, educational, and high quality performances for young audiences. Attending these performances supports teachers’ efforts to meet the Illinois State Standards in Fine Arts and the Common Core standards for literacy, equipping students with important 21st century skills. Teachers are also encouraged to extend the learning opportunities into subject areas beyond the fine arts by using information and ideas provided in the Teacher Guides for each show. By introducing children to the experience of attending live professional performing arts, Sangamon Auditorium hopes to cultivate future audience members who will be active participants in and supporters of the arts in their communities.

Class Acts Ordering Information

Call the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office at 217.206.6160 or 800.207.6960 or visit our website at www.SangamonAuditorium.org to reserve your seats. Please have this brochure ready for reference. Ticket price per person is $6 (unless otherwise noted). Classes should have one chaperon for every 15 students. Every 16th ticket is complementary. To determine how many complementary tickets you will receive with your order, take the total inclusive number and divide by 16, rounding down to the nearest whole number. Everyone—including teachers, chaperones, parents, and bus drivers—must be included in your total if they want to watch the performance.

Each Class Acts order placed over the phone will be assessed a $4 processing fee. Patrons who come to the Ticket Office in person and place a complete order (including payment) on the same day will not be assessed the $4 fee. Reservations are filled in the order they are received. A confirmation letter will be mailed after the order is placed.

Release Dates: You must confirm the total number attending 3 weeks prior to the performance. If your order is not confirmed by the deadline, your seats will be released to the next group on our waiting list. Once the final ticket count is confirmed, no seats may be released. Payment must be received 2 weeks prior to the performance. One voucher will be issued to admit your entire group. Please remember to bring your voucher with you to the performance.

All sales are final. We are not able to give refunds or exchanges. Only if a school officially closes on the day of a planned attendance to a Class Acts performance will the Auditorium allow an exchange for another performance within the same season. Official notification in writing from the school principal within 3 business days of the performance is necessary before any adjustment to your account can be made.  

Recommended Grade Levels: Auditorium staff recommends grade levels based on the content, manner of presentation, and recommendations of the Class Acts Advisory Committee and the performers themselves.  Teachers at other grade levels may consider bringing their students to a performance if they find the material suitable.  However, be advised that students more than three grade levels from those recommended may experience some dissatisfaction.  Please contact Carly Shank at 217.206.6150 if you have questions.

PRIVACY STATEMENT: Please note that after you make a reservation for you and your students to attend an Illinois Symphony Orchestra (ISO) Youth Concert, UIS will share your order information with the ISO. This will enable the ISO to have access to your name and contact information so that they may send you appropriate study guide materials for the concerts and notify you about future events that may be of interest to you and your students. UIS will not share payment information, such as credit cards, with the ISO. If you have any questions, please contact the Ticket Office.

Class Acts Attendance Information

Accessibility Services: When placing your order, please inform the Ticket Office if anyone in your group is in need of accessibility services.  If advance notice has not been arranged, every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate your group based on remaining available seating upon your arrival.  Students with mobility, visual, or hearing impairments will be seated with their escort in the appropriate section of the auditorium.  This may be separate from the rest of the group.

We ask patrons to request accessibility services two weeks or more before a performance to provide sufficient time to make and secure the appropriate arrangements. Please note that services are not arranged until requested by ticket purchasers and that all services may not be available for every performance and are contingent on the availability of service providers.

Lunch Space: Schools that bring their own lunches to eat at UIS need to request space for lunch at the time the ticket order is placed.  The limited space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The cafeteria is not prepared to serve students lunch unless prior arrangements have been made.

Directions: Sangamon Auditorium is located on the campus of the University of Illinois Springfield. Three to four weeks before the performance you will receive a packet with Teacher’s Guides and detailed attendance information including directions, parking, seating, and a campus map.

Theater Behavior: The Teacher’s Guides include information about appropriate behavior at Sangamon Auditorium events.  Please review the guidelines with your students before the performance.  Students whose behavior is disruptive to others will be asked to leave the Auditorium.
