Being a proud senior at the University of Illinois at Springfield is a status that did not come easy. My college career has been full of ups and downs, as with most college students. I made the decision to become involved in extracurricular and leadership opportunities during my college career, after complaining about what needed to be changed on various college campuses. I was told that complaining, will only lead to more complaining, but action will lead to change. During my time here at the University of Illinois at Springfield, I found out early that networking and involvement on the campus was critical to my success, both here and when it is time for me to move on. The most important issues facing my constituency and the UIS community is representation. Representation and fair treatment is a goal that is I am working towards during my tenure here at UIS. Knowing that it takes courage to believe that African Americans can make this old world a new world through becoming educated is what motivates. This motivation pushes me to continue on this journey to a realistic representation of all students on campus.
