Spring Elections for the 2008-2009 AY

LaTrice Nettles - Candidate Position Statement

I, LaTrice Nettles, would be honored to represent the University of Illinois at Springfield amongst U of I Urbana-Champaign and U of I Chicago, as your Student Trustee. As a 4-year student at UIS, I have had two years of SGA experience, serving as Senator at Large as a freshman, and as Senator of the College of Business and Management, as a sophomore.

Over the years, I’ve been involved in many various committees and organizations such as SAC, ICCB, and UIS Athletics, to name a few. In the spring of ’06, I formed the UIS Disaster Relief Volunteer Group, where a diverse group of more than 30 students, came together to cleanup Springfield and surrounding cities, when an inflow of tornados struck during spring break. Last semester, I initiated the emergency I-Card money program, where 23 students were provided funds for campus food, during finals week.

As an experienced student leader, I’ve been very successful in enacting beneficial services for students, and I would like to be an activist for you and bring your concerns before the Student Government and the U of I Board of Trustees.
I plan to endorse and work to see implemented:

  • Campus Services
    • After School & Weekend Programming for Children living on/off campus
    • Provide improvements in event planning policies for student organizations
    • Improve distribution of Meal Plan money- allow students continual flow of funds for campus food throughout the semester
  • Admissions
    • Tuition- affordable amongst the U of I Branch
    • Student Fees-evaluation of purpose and distribution
  • Academics
    • More academic options for Incoming, Transfer, Graduate, and Online Students
  • Campus Development
    • New/Upcoming Building Projects
    • NCAA Division II process

So join me in this endeavor: Taking our University to Another Level!

Thank You,
LaTrice Nettles
